Santa Giovanna, Patron Saint of Community
bringing people together with fun, frivolity and mischief

Following the huge success of our inaugural Festa di Santa Giovanna in 2018, we are proud to announce this year’s festival is extending to 5 diverse events over 7 days. See you there!

A celebration of good food, booze, music and community at the beautiful Thornbury Theatre! We’re throwing a big party for a good cause, raising funds for Free to Feed. Live music from dynamic duo The Twoks and big band, Horns of Leroy. Plus a DJ set by Fee B Squared (Triple R legend). Make the most of arrival drinks until 7pm and feast over a massive spread of incredible food made by the gorgeous people at Free to Feed. Doors open 6pm.

TUE 21 MAY - big night in thornbury

Head back to the 50s for a special screening of the modern classic, Big Night. Written by and starring Stanley Tucci and featuring Isabella Rossellini (of course), it tells the story of two Italian brothers who move to the US to follow their dream of setting up an Italian restaurant. For some reason, the story resonated with us!

Join us at the Thornbury Picture House, enjoy an arrival drink and aperitivo canapès for a fun night out.

WED 22 MAY - stories from a suitcase

Be captivated by real-life stories from the heart. This free event is the conclusion of our story-writing competition for local writers. On the night, stories from the top 5 finalists will be read aloud, followed by a presentation of awards by our guest panel of judges; Leanne Clancey, freelance food and travel writer, Cr. Lina Messina (Darebin Council) and Liliana Barbieri, local artist. Join us ay 6:30pm - readings will commence at 7pm.

Devote yourself and celebrate your sins for a night you won’t forget!

Saturday night of the festa is the ‘Big Dance’ and it’s the only true way to pay homage to our patron saint. There will be drinking. And dancing. (Lots of dancing). But most importantly there will be plenty of mischief! Let your hair down and get ready to get loose.

Sun 26 MAY - sagra della salsiccia

This is a free event and your chance to celebrate the home coming of our Patron Saint of Community, Santa Giovanna. Devour the sacred foods of the festa – homemade salsicce from The Meat Room followed by sweet treats by Eat Cannoli. Then drink and dance the afternoon away.

In keeping with Italian tradition, there will be a procession through the streets of Thornbury and live band, Siesta Cartel will be leading the way. Don’t be late for this one, 12pm sharp at Joanie’s. Northside has never seen anything like this before!
